Lavender & Rosemary Sachet
This weekend I had a bachlorette party in Charlotte for my college roommate, Anna. For part of the party we threw her a lingerie and linens shower.
I've never been a big fan of buying people lingerie. When my friend Julie got married I gave her "grandpa pjs" and for my own wedding, I requested a monogram shower in place of a lingerie one at my bachlorette party.
So, for Anna I decided to do something a little different. I got her a lingerie washing bag and made a sachet for her lingerie drawer (Amy and I also went in on some monogrammed towels).
To make the sachet I got an organza gift bag from my local craft store and cut off the ribbon that is attached to it. I then cut some leftover fabric in a piece big enough to cover the bag.
I ironed all four sides, and made quick stitch in each of the corners.
Inside the sachet I decided to do a rosemary and lavender bag. I grabbed some rosemary from my garden, dried lavender from the farmers market and rosemary essential oil from Whole Foods.
I read somewhere that you could speed up the drying process of herbs by putting them in the microwave before hanging them dry. So, I zapped mine for 30 seconds and then hung them to dry overnight. It worked for me (please be careful though and read up before you try this). I also added some long grain (not instant) rice for some more substance and to help soak up some of the essential oil. I used equal parts rice and lavender, 2-3 drops essential oil and about 2 sprigs of dried rosemary. Since smell is such a personal thing, I suggest just trusting your nose on this one.
After the bag was filled about 1/3 full I tied around the top of the two bags with a pretty ribbon. With this sachet the fabric is open on the sides so that you can see the blue organza (with the herb mix) peeking through and is also a little shorter so you can also see the organza on top.
All wrapped up and ready to go (with a Keller-Creative card)...
This would also make a great favor for a shower. Pretty and smells divine.. what could be better???
