Baked Pumpkin Cake Donuts

Photobucket

A few weeks ago I bought a donut pan and it's certainty made Sunday morning breakfasts a lot more fun around here.

This weekend I thought I'd take the ever popular two-ingredient cakes and turn it into a donut. Sounds like the perfect start to the weekend to me.  And while I added a few extra ingredients, these are still one of the easiest and tasty, fall breakfast recipes.

And so my pumpkin obsession begins....

Baked Pumpkin Cake  Donuts
Yield: 18 Donuts

1 Box Spice Cake Mix
1 tsp pumpkin pie seasoning
1 15 oz can pumpkin
1 tablespoon water

 Powdered Sugar

Preheat oven to 350 F. Spray donut pan with cooking spray. In bowl or stand mix combine all ingredients and mix well. Place mix in a sandwich bag and snip one corner to make a piping bag. Fill donut pan 2/3 full and bake for 10 minutes. After removed from oven dust with powdered sugar. Best when served warm.

Since these donuts are baked, and not fried and the cake recipe if free from oil and eggs these donuts are a little healthier then the normal donut (these are around 120 calories each) and are vegan friendly.

Served warm with a cup of Pumpkin Spice coffee and you've got yourself a real treat!

What Happened to Keller-Creative?

Hi Friends!

It's been awhile. What started off as a couple day blog break has quickly turned into a two month one. Oops!

Work and life have been busy and I'm still trying to figure out what direction this little blog should take. First order of business is starting to post recipes again. I went to go make something I made earlier this summer and realized I never blogged about it and therefor forgot how I made it.

If you follow me on Instagram (kimkeller24) you'll know that around our house we finally got some grown up furniture for our living room (aka we didn't have to assemble it with an allen wrench) from one of my favorite Charleston furniture stores...

I also got the mate to my flamingo print and ordered a Caitlin Wilson pillow for our bedroom. It's finally feeling a bit more finished in there too...

We also did some traveling to Pittsburgh to see Eric's family and to Park City, Utah to celebrate my dad's 75th birthday.  Both trips were a great time.

Besides that it's been work and planning baby showers for friends.

So, sorry for the  absence but I guess in this case, no news is good news!

One Stem, Four Ways.

Whenever I drive by a hydrangea bush that is full of dead flowers. I get a little sad and can't help but to think how gorgeous they once were and how fabulous they would have looked inside the home.

We recently planted our second hydrangea bush I'm enjoying cutting the stems off and placing them around our house. All of these arrangements were made using just one stem of the hydrangea bush.

In a vase in the living room (this flower/stem is quite large).

In a simple glass in the bathroom.

In a milk glass planter in the entry.

In a silver julep cup in the bedroom.

Anyone else enjoying hydrangeas around there home this summer?

Lemonade Cupcakes (Semi-Homemade)

One of my favorite summertime desserts is lemonade cake. It's truly delicious but it's a MESS to make.  So, I decided to figure out a way to make my favorite treat, minus all the mess. The solution? Lemon cake mix, butter cream frosting and Kool-Aid. Yes, Kool-Aid.

I have to admit, I discovered this kool-aid flavored frosting idea on another blog. Of course, now I can't remember what blog that was....

But, here is my version of lemonade cupcakes.

Make the lemon cake according to directions on box.

Lemonade Butter Cream Frosting:
1/3 cup butter
3 cups sifted powder sugar
A few tablespoons milk
1 packet of Kool-Aid drink mix

With an electric mixer, beat butter and sugar, slowly add milk until desired consistency. Mix in kool-aid packet.

First cooled lemon cupcakes and top with some sprinkles.

I made these for a small cookout we had on Saturday and they were devoured. Such a tasty summer treat.

Ginger Jars Art

When I get something in my head, I can't seem to stop thinking about it. In case you haven't noticed, currently it's all things blue and white. I've loved blue and white for a long time but have recently decided to start actively looking for pieces for my kitchen (and my mom's dining room).  And since I can quickly see myself running out of room, I started to think of some other fun things that had my beloved blue and white ginger jars printed on them. Here are a few of my favorites...

I recently discovered a new place in Charleston that is a blue and white mecca. I've been trying not to go there every day and buy every piece that comes in.  My mom and I are heading there this weekend and in the meantime I got a new little blue and white love in form of one of Pink Pagoda prints. I think it's going to look pretty awesome in my guest bathroom.

Don't forget about the designer pillow giveaway. It ends today!

More Blue + White

I've always loved blue and white (if you haven't noticed).  Just about every room in our house is done in that color scheme. Recently, I've been all about finding blue and white porcelain pieces.   Here are two more I recently picked up...

The first one, is a low planter that I picked up for 50 cents at the Habitat Store.  I added a new succulent called coral carpet. Apparently it will get pink flowers  at some point too.  It's out on my screened porch.

The next piece, a blue and white pot I found in Raleigh (thanks to a suggestion from Jessie).  I have a faux boxwood from Ikea in it (the space doesn't get much light).

One of the reasons I've been picking up some more blue and white planters is because I'm really trying to add more greenery to my house as well. Eric thinks the place is starting to look a little like a greenhouse but I'm loving all the green and freshness.

And although it may seem like I'm buying every piece of blue and white out there, I did leave these three pieces behind. I found them at Ross and looking back I'm kinda mad I didn't get them especially since my mom is also on the hunt for some new blue and white, I'm pretty sure the bird ginger jar would have been perfect for her. I went back on Friday but unfortunately these beauties are long gone.

 Ginger Jar ($12.99 at Ross)

Jar ($9.99 at Ross)-- ah wish I would have got this one for my kitchen!

Knobs ($5.99 at Ross)

Also, just one more follower until I reach 300 and I have my next giveaway!
